Camping

Camping can be the most amazing experience or the most miserable experience ever. So much depends on the weather. If the sun is shining and the water is warm, there is nothing like it. What more could you ask for? Well… maybe a cold beer.

On the other hand a cold, damp, wet weekend stuck in a tent doesn't really appeal to me. All that camping gear that you have to organize and pack into the car only to take out and set up when you get there? And if it is raining on top of that? Some would say that is the funniest way to go camping. Not this girl.

Camping can be a great break from reality. Away from the dirt and grim of the city, camping offers the beauty of the great outdoors. The peace and quiet of water running, birds chirping, the wind blowing. That sounds like my kind of camping.

Camping appeals to people for many different reasons. For some it is the simpleness of it. Cooking on an open fire, breathing in the fresh air as you sleep, seeing the sunrise in the morning. Getting away from the clutter of home and back to the basics.

One of the best times shared at a campsite is the campfire. The crackling of the fire, someone playing some tunes on the guitar, making smores and roasting marshmallows. Let's not forget telling ghost stories.

For some families, the annual camping weekend is the best holiday of the year. There are no distractions to keep the kids away. No TV, video games, cell phones (as long as everyone promises to turn them off), meals cooked and enjoyed together, games, swimming, and grabbing a sleeping bag and bunking in for the night.

Next time you are trying to think of something different to do, check out the campsites close to you. Camping just might become you new favorite getaway.
