To some, an afternoon spent in a furniture store is a great adventure. To others, it is but a burden. Why this difference? Because to the second group, a trip to the furniture store is just an expensive shopping trip. To the first group, it's part of the wonderful experience of creating a home.

It's all a matter of mindset. And regardless of what the "shopping grouches" may say, you don't have to spend a lot of money to do well at a furniture store. No matter what your budget, it's easy to find a store that has the furniture just right for you.

At one end of the spectrum are the furniture stores run by charitable organizations, selling donated, used furniture for a song. It's great fun to look for hidden treasures in such places. At the other end of the spectrum are the upscale furniture stores, staffed by professional designers. Don't be intimidated by these places: you'll usually find that at the best furniture stores, the staff are friendly and helpful. If nothing else, they'll give you some great ideas!

So if your spouse is one of those furniture store grouches, remind him that he needn't spend a lot of money. Remind him that shopping for furniture can be an adventure. And remind him that he'll be able to enjoy his new furniture for many years to come. Then, just maybe, he'll be happy to join you on your adventure… in the exciting world of furniture stores.
