The Actor and His Gazebo

I sit in my garden Gazebo
Enjoying a fine glass of port,
I swallowed it with a placebo
And pondered how life can be fraught

But having a comfy gazebo
My mind often drifts far away
I dream of when I was a hero
The handsome young star of the play

My Othello, my Hamlet, my Lear
A gazebo in each play, I think
My memory it fades though, I fear
And I blame it all on the drink

Although my gazebo brings pleasure
My emptiness never subsides
My days of great headlines and treasure
Having come and have gone like the tides

A washed up and old haggered actor
I cherish my gorgeous gazebo
It's better than having a tractor,
But soon I'll be off to Sasebo

So off to Japan I shall wander
And hope a gazebo awaits,
Maybe I'll meet that Jane Fonda
And go on a series of dates

As I sit and adapt to the culture,
My gazebo will be in my mind,
My new role, a pirate named 'Vulture'
Was the best that my agent could find

On Broadway my star shone so brightly,
My gazebo was always right there,
But now I am washed up, quite rightly,
And frankly, I don't really care

When the theatre in the sky calls my number,
A gazebo will be there, it will
And my headstone will read, as I slumber,
" I told this time I was ill…"
