Fluorescent Lighting: the gritty nitty

Fluorescent lighting is rather difficult to spell, but well worth the effort. If you can spell “fluorescent lighting” then you can write poems about it. Then again, it’s not easy to think of things that rhyme with “fluorescent lighting” either. So let’s forget about writing poems about fluorescent lighting and focus instead on where fluorescent lighting can be used.

The uses of fluorescent lighting

Most often, we see fluorescent lighting at the office. This is because fluorescent lighting is efficient, bright and low-maintenance. Fluorescent lighting uses much less electricity than incandescent lighting, saving lots of money for your cheapskate boss.

When fluorescent lighting is used in a home or restaurant, it tends to be used in areas where bright, low-shadow light is more important than attractiveness. In other words, fluorescent lighting is ugly. It makes everyone look pale and blue, and never seems to stop flickering.

Can you imagine seeing fluorescent lighting in a nice restaurant? Not a chance. Fluorescent lighting is a sure sign that you’re in a dive. If a blind date takes you to a restaurant with fluorescent lighting, then he truly IS blind! Tell him, “What, are you blind? You’re taking me to a dump with fluorescent lighting? I want candles or soft incandescent lighting. It’s much more romantic than fluorescent lighting.”

In sum, fluorescent lighting is hard to spell, practically impossible to rhyme, and is ugly as a dog’s butt. However, it’s cheap and practical, and that appeals to some people. As for me, I’m not a fan of fluorescent lighting.
